Character List

ALI, he/him. Latine/Chicano, late teens-20s, Tenor. Charismatic, dazzling, brilliant. A gifted composer and musician with no limits. However, self-understanding creeps in throughout his life and loses himself. Alejandro Fernandez meets Ne-Yo. Plays the piano, guitar, violin, and anything else you got in your bag.

LUPE, she/her. Latine/Mexican, late 30s-50s, Mezzo-Soprano. A hardworking, honest woman. The backbone and matriarch of the family and puts them before herself. Gloria Estefan meets Linda Ronstadt.

ALEX, he/him. Latine/Mexican, late 30s-50s, High Baritone. A hard-shell machismo. Clearly loves his family more than he can say and wants the best for all of them, but can’t help bring in money because of disability. Short tempered, so look out. Javier Solis meets Jean Valjean from LES MISERABLES. Must Play Acoustic Guitar.

JAIMITO, he/him. Latine/Chicano, late teens-20s, Tenor, MUST be able to riff well. Linda's son. A cool, steely reserve. Cerebral, but sticks to his roots and where he comes from. Focused on the better life for him and his family. Mechanic. Babyface meets Anthony Ramos.

LINDA, she/her. Latine/Mexican, late 30s-50s, Mezzo-Soprano. The older sister of Lupe. Sassy, fiery, and nothing stands in her way. Money is a priority. Divorced. Sofia Vergara meets Daniela from IN THE HEIGHTS.

DESIREE, she/her. Latine/Chicana, late teens-20s, Soprano with strong belt. Strong willed, no filter, and protective. Wants to do what's right and not ruffle feathers. Anahi meets Selena Quintanilla.

MAYA, any pronouns. Latine, late teens-20's, Alto. An intelligent, self-aware human walking in a world where she is always zooming out. Kind-hearted and spirited, but reserved. Persistent. Diane Guerrero meets Joan from FUN HOME.

​JASON, he/him. White, late 30's or older, Tenor. A quirky, self-assured man drenched in entitlement and male privilege. While he presents a charming, confident demeanor, his interactions are often laced with racism. Justin Timberlake meets Gaston from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

ENSEMBLE, minimum of 6 voices (must be from underrepresented groups, including People of the Global Majority and LGBTQIA+ community). These folx play the roles of Mark, Mark's friends, Principal Funk, Students, Customers, and other small characters.
